STEVEN HOWSON

MEng, MArch, ARB

Director

Design Director and Founder

An ARB registered Architect with experience totalling 15 years within  stablished international practices such as Woods Bagot, BFLS, Foster and Partners, and Heatherwick Studio.

As a black British American, Steven lived on the island of Montserrat in the Caribbean until the late 90’s when his family were forced to relocate to London due to volcanic activity in 1997.

At the age of 11 there weren’t many role models of Black British Architects that spring to mind, but the idea of creating ‘home’ always resonated with Steven on a personal level as many of the childhood places he used to visit and family home were no longer existing or accessible.

Coupled with this desire, Steven’s determination and creativity propelled him towards a career in architecture through achieving the following,

  • Masters in Architectural Engineering from The University of Leeds and Pennsylvania State University 2007

  • Masters in Architecture from The Bartlett School of architecture, UCL (RIBA Part 2) 2014

  • Post-Graduate Diploma in architecture and Professional Practice from The University of Westminster (RIBA Part 3) 2016

  • ARB (Architects Registration Board) registered UK Architect 2016

  • Charted RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architect) Member

Steven has also worked internationally in North Africa (Libya) for 3 Years working alongside local Architectural practices to design and deliver key housing, cultural and infrastructure projects.

In January 2022 after eight years of working at Heatherwick Studio and achieving the opportunity to lead on major projects Steven officially founded Studio Howson.
